I spent much of the weekend revisiting old episodes of “Peter Gunn,” which aired from 1958 to 1961, and I’m wondering if there’s ever been a more stylish television show. The fact that jazz is such an integral part of the detective series helps make it my favorite TV series ever.

Most folks know Henry Mancini’s theme song, but some of the other music on the show was captivating, too.

The fact that Black Robot includes three former Buckcherry member sin it’s ranks might lead one to expect the sound here to be similar to Buckcherry. There are a few AC/DC inspired tracks, but not as much of a Buckcherry sound as I might have expected. The overall feel to this album is a cross between 70’s blues rock like AC/DC, Zeppelin and Aerosmith and more modern hard rock polish on top. The results didn’t click with me at first in fact I am still completely in love with nor do I expect to be, but it is growing a little on me. It’s an energetic presentation of familar ideas. What I like about it is the energy and the slightly retro flavor that is weaved throughout. The problem I had was they often times rush through a few parts where they could have gotten more out of it by taking their time and buiding up the grooves. I felt like they glossed over some parts more than they needed to. A part of that is the production, but I think that the sound would have beniffited greatly if they tightened up around the edges. That might just come on the next release. It’s a decent release that is likely to appeal to a wide audience.

An Irishman in California, I can`t blame Marc Carroll for basing himself in more pleasing climates than his native Dublin. A superbly shot video for the latest release `What`s Left Of My Heart`. The vibrant colour is fantastically captured, a warming LA voyeuristic landscape with Marc`s moody composition playing the title theme. I get the impression the fourth album is running up to a huge promotional push. `Dust Of Rumour` is available in all audio formats along with this established songwriter`s extensive back catalogue. A wonderful voice with charm and sincerity.

Slash reckons UK music is “tame, predictable and faceless”.

The legendary former Guns ‘N’ Roses guitarist admitted he is “down on music in general right now” and said that the UK is lacking any bona fide rock legends in the making.

When asked if he feels the UK should have more rock stars on Wednesday (02.24.10), he said: “It’s lacking there. I mean you’ve got the Gallagher brothers(Oasis) but they’ve been around forever. It’s gotten sort of tame predicable and faceless.”

He did, however, add he didn’t want to single the UK out, and that music across the world is undergoing a hard time, though he remains positive it will soon pass.

He added to Absolute Radio: “I guess Lady Gaga has turned into a big personality. But we’re at a dead zone in music right now. We go through this every decade. It’s the beginning of a new decade, so I think things will get cool from here.”

Slash releases his self titled debut album in Japan in March, in the US in April and in Europe in May. His first single from the album, ‘By The Sword’ will be released in Europe on March 1.
